Poetry & Poetic Prose
DEFINITION & OVERVIEW
A literary genre that conveys poetic imagery and emotional intensity in a prose format, without relying on meter or rhyme rules.
HOW TO WRITE OR PREPARE IT
- Pay close attention to sentence rhythm, phonetic harmony in word selection, and internal melody.
- Although written in prose form, imaginative depth and artistic sensitivity must remain at the forefront.
- There is no need for a standard plot like in a short story; the goal is to portray an emotional state or a fleeting moment.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR (TECHNICAL)
- Keep paragraph structures short; use concise, striking sentences to maintain the rhythm.
- Ideal length is between 150 and 450 words.
- Read your text aloud before submitting to eliminate awkward phrasing and word repetitions.
